Amy Smith, aka the Social Media Smith will be presenting a workshop aimed at small businesses and solopreneurs. Managing their social media is a chore for many small businesses. It can be hard to tell if it’s effective and even harder to find time to create content.

Amy Smith will explain how creating a social media strategy can help!

This FREE workshop is being presented by the Woburn Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the Woburn Public Library and is being hosted by our friends at MindTrek VR. MindTrek VR is a brand new concept in virtual reality gameplay. With locations in Woburn and Marlboro, gamers are physically immersed in the virtual reality experience. Through clever use of social media, this company has effectively shared their concept and built excitement which has supported their growth. Workshop attendees are encouraged to try for themselves with discounted gameplay after the workshop.

You can register for both the workshop and the gameplay through the library.

[gdlr_heading tag=”h2″ font_weight=”bold” ]Networking Tips from the Experts[/gdlr_heading]

For many of us, stepping into a networking event can be an intimidating proposal. At the Woburn Chamber of Commerce, we take pride in hosting events that are friendly and welcoming. Introductions are easily made and we always enjoy meeting new people!

Here are some tips on breaking the ice from Ivan Misner, author of Networking Like A Pro. In his article for Entrepeneur.com called, “Hate Small Talk? How to Break the Ice When Networking for Business”, Ivan has two main suggestions.

  1. Current Events: Even if you don’t have any interest in sports or the latest celebrity gossip, taking just a cursory glance at the headlines on websites like CNN, ESPN or People arms you with conversations starters for all ages.
  2. Ask Questions: Give the person you are meeting the opportunity to be the expert! Ask them about their business and let them do the talking. You might learn something interesting and they will enjoy being able to share more about their business.
