We send our Congratulations to Tyler Gates, Edward Jones Financial Advisor on his stunning new office at 304 Cambridge Road in Woburn. The entire building underwent an extensive remodel over the last year and Tyler was displaced for several months. It is safe to say that it was all worth it as the building renovation is nearly complete and  everything looks magnificent. Tyler’s new office is bright, sunny and spacious.

Tyler recently hosted an open house for the community to tour the building and take a peak at the renovations. He invited TAG, The Artists Group to participate and showcase some of their artwork.

TAG has an art center located at 69 Pleasant Street in Woburn, Massachusetts. This artists’ collaborative consists of professional artists that span varied mediums with years of experience honing their crafts. We welcome you to visit our space and see what we have to offer.

Arts and Culture programs are intrinsic to a healthy community. The arts foster new, inventive thoughts and ideas which are naturally imaginative, introspective and impressive.

Artists flourish in communities of other artists. Our goal is for TAG to be that community for you.

[gdlr_heading tag=”h2″ font_weight=”bold” ]Presenter[/gdlr_heading]

Secretary Jay Ash to provide update on the Baker/Polito administration.

Jay Ash
Secretary of Housing and Economic Development

Jay Ash serves as the Secretary of Housing and Economic Development for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Secretary Ash is responsible for directing and executing Governor Charlie Baker’s agenda on housing and community development, job creation, business development, consumer affairs, and business regulation. Since joining the Baker-Polito Administration, Secretary Ash has prioritized efforts to grow jobs, help communities realize their economic development priorities, connect citizens to new economic opportunities, and build prosperity across Massachusetts.

Under Secretary Ash’s leadership, the Commonwealth has substantially increased its commitment to public infrastructure that unlocks economic development, to the revitalization of Brownfields, to workforce training equipment, and to the development and commercialization of emerging technologies. He has led efforts to increase affordable housing production, to redevelop and modernize public housing communities, and to substantially reduce the number of homeless families sheltered in motel rooms. Secretary Ash has played a leadership role in the recruitment and expansion of major employers, including Amazon, General Electric, IBM Watson Health, Kronos, and Siemens.

Secretary Ash previously served as the city manager in his native Chelsea, a position he held from 2000 to 2014. In Chelsea, Secretary Ash’s leadership produced both economic expansion and fiscal stability. He grew the city’s housing stock, expanded its commercial base, developed 10 new parks, secured five credit rating increases, and won two All-America City designations for Chelsea. He previously served as the staff director to the Massachusetts House Majority Leader, as co-founder and vice-chair of the Metropolitan Mayors Coalition, as past president of the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, as a board member of the public policy think tank MassINC, and as an elected trustee of his alma mater, Clark University.

[gdlr_heading tag=”h2″ font_weight=”bold” ]Collaboration Breeds Success at WMHS[/gdlr_heading]
The Woburn Public Media Center, Waste Management and Woburn Memorial High School’s “Green Team” recently partnered to create a Public Service Announcement to help educate students and residents about recycling.  The goal of the project is to help educate students about what should and should not be recycled in the school cafeteria. Believe it or not, everything with a recycle symbol is not recyclable in the city. The Green Team has made great strides in “greening up” the high school’s cafeteria.

The PSA will be shown on the city’s cable access channel as well as the school’s rolling announcements. This partnership between public and private is a great example of how business can benefit community. Please take a moment to see what the students created.

Paul Meaney Day is April 19th
Mayor Scott Galvin declared April 19th to be Paul Meaney Sr. Day in the City of Woburn.
This proclamation was made to honor the years of service Paul dedicated to the City and to the Woburn Chamber of Commerce.
Paul’s legacy is one of tireless effort to support business and he is well remembered at City Hall.

From the Executive Director
I have heard countless stories from the Mayor, City Councilors and other City Officials about Paul’s impassioned pleas on behalf of business owners. His belief that a strong business community strengthened the community as a whole made him a dogged ally for businesses as they wound their way through City Hall.
As an organization we continue to be dedicated to supporting our members in this way and advocating for a business climate that supports growth and development.
The Board of Directors has reformed the Government Committee, creating a team approach to handling these issues. The committee is interested in hearing from businesses as they face issues in regards to City Hall. The goal is to increase awareness, find commonalities and advocate as appropriate.

As the organization grows we are grateful for the contributions made by those who have gone before us. This year’s Woburn Chamber of Commerce scholarship will be given in Paul’s name to honor his many years of service and contribution. A portion of the proceeds from the first annual golf tournament will fund the scholarship.

Heather Maguire, Executive Director

Heather Maguire
Executive Director, Woburn Chamber of Commerce

We at the Woburn Chamber of Commerce are saddened by the passing of Senator Kenneth Donnelly.

Ken Donnelly championed many causes during his political career some of those were increasing access to mental health services, funding workforce training for the unemployed and protecting homeless families.

Senator Donnelly was a welcome guest and speaker at many Woburn Chamber of Commerce functions. He was eager to listen and connect with business owners and learn what he could do to help. We are grateful for all of his support over the years.

We extend our deepest condolences to his family.

Pictured above: Senator Donnelly (left) and State Representative, James Dwyer ( right) have joined us annually as we honor Woburn Public Schools employees on their 20th year of service. Also present but not pictured is Representative Jay Kaufman.  Assistant Principal at WMHS, Ralph Deldon (center) is shown here receiving his award and boutonniere.
