[gdlr_heading tag=”h2″ font_weight=”bold” ]Information and Support for Families Raising Children with Disabilities[/gdlr_heading]

Your Disability Connection is a local cable television program created by Susan Cauley, a mother of two children with autism. She created this show to offer support for other families. If you or your loved ones are dealing with issues relating to raising children with disabilities this is a resource you may wish to consider. Susan is also seeking support from individuals and businesses to expand her programing.

Below is a letter from Susan explaining the origin of the program and how you can support:

Greetings:

The show “Your Disability Connection” is personally a very special project for me.  As a single parent struggling to raise two children with autism, I had to learn how to effectively teach and advocate for them at a time when autism was a fairly unknown diagnosis by the general population. I found there was very little support.  Even now that they have grown older, living in group homes, support is still an issue and learning new approaches and information about autism is constant.

Guided by this endless journey and my personal experience, I decided to develop a show geared towards parents that live every day with challenges and frustrations caring for their child with a disability. Most parents feel alone in the difficult task of raising children with special needs and could use some encouragement from other parents facing the same responsibilities. This is reflected in every show produced, sharing valuable knowledge that allows me to reach out to other parents that are also searching for answers, direction and support.

Dedicated to providing accurate, up to date information, each guest on our show is a professional in their field or a parent who shares their experiences on a particular topic. The guests discuss issues pertinent to the subject matter in a conversational half hour format.  Topics that have been covered include guardianship, financial planning, respite care, autism, bullying, the IEP and much more. The show is produced in Woburn and broadcast on several cable stations including WPMC. All 34 shows are also available to watch on YouTube.com.

As a business owner I am seeking your assistance in increasing our coverage area and viewership.  We hope to make the show more accessible to anxious and overwhelmed parents of children with disabilities”

Please consider supporting “Your Disability Connection” in any way possible.

You could become a member of the board, committee member, production staff or just to spread a positive word about our show to others. Donations can also be  made to Go Fund Me.com or call Susan Cauley 782-281-0772 for additional information.

So if you haven’t heard about or seen “You’re Not Alone, Surviving Your Child’s Disability”, I hope you decide to take a look and help us out!!

We recently held a Social Media for Small Business workshop in partnership with the Woburn Public Library. Our presenter, Amy Smith works with small business owners and entrepeneurs, helping them develop social media strategies. She emphasized the social aspect of social media and encouraged attendees to think in terms of creating a digital village.

[gdlr_heading tag=”h2″ font_weight=”bold” ]What are your goals?[/gdlr_heading]
Consider what you are trying to accomplish and who you are trying to reach. Keep in mind that your ultimate goal is to drive people to your website (always have a website!).

To accomplish your goals, you are looking to create content and establish credibility. You are also looking to build engagement through likes, shares and comments. Amy advises you to be judicious, but definitely add a call to action from time to time. For example, adding some version of: “Learn More”, “Share”, “Tell us what you think”, and “Donate Now” can encourage people to engage and give you opportunity to connect personally.

[gdlr_heading tag=”h2″ font_weight=”bold” ]Content Calendar[/gdlr_heading]
A content calendar is a way for you to intentionally manage your social media postings. Planning in advance what will go out and when, means you can “schedule it and forget it”. The content you post should be relevant to your business and help to establish your credibility. For example, a landscaping company can schedule weekly lawncare tips, gardening advise and customer testimonials. As a business, you do not need to post all of the time but you do need to build engagement to be seen.

You can find out more about Amy Smith at her Website and Facebook

[gdlr_heading tag=”h2″ font_weight=”bold” ]Additional Tips[/gdlr_heading]

Our workshop was generously hosted by MindTrek VR. We felt this was the perfect location for several reasons. First, it is located directly behind the WPL’s temporary space in Cummings Park. Second, their business is a great example of how social media can be used to grow your brand and build excitement! Third, we really wanted to try out the VR experience (You can see our fierce zombie killing crew below)!

We were joined by Victor Machado of Post & Wall, the company that manages social media for Mind Trek VR. Victor encouraged us to:

A. Productize your business, B. Build your content around that, and C. Give people a Call to Action.

Most businesses know (or should know by now) that they must comply with state and federal data security laws and regulations. But business leaders often are unaware of what it really takes to do so. That is understandable. Data security seems complex, and technology consultants and vendors rarely try to demystify it for their customers.

Data security is just like any other legal or business risk management issue. The risk is managed through a process of collaboration between business leaders, information technology professionals, and qualified legal counsel. continue to full article

[gdlr_heading tag=”h2″ font_weight=”bold” ]Tocci Building Corp is Hosting a Talent Show Fundraiser and You’re Invited![/gdlr_heading]

Tocci’s own Marvin Lahoud recently made us aware of his efforts to welcome Syrian refugees into his corner of the world in Lebanon. His organization works with refugee families, and has a focus on helping those families with special needs.

When Marvin moved here, we asked how we could help, he told us the operating budget, the financials needed, and we decided to throw the best (and possibly weirdest) fundraiser ever you’ve ever seen, a company talent show. 100% of the proceeds will benefit Marvin’s church in Lebanon where it can do the most good.

Help the cause by joining us for our party! It’ll be a fun-filled night with food, drink, games and a talent show!
