Woburn Municipal Federal Credit Union announced on Tuesday, April 16, that it will be changing its name and tag line to Common Trust Federal Credit Union, “Familiar Faces Invested in You” effective on May 1, 2019.

In a video presented to the annual meeting’s attendees, President and CEO, James McCorkle, revealed that the new name and the tagline were both chosen to capture our unchanging core values of being the friendly faces that guide members to financial success. All of our core principles, our staff, and our services will remain the same once the new name goes into effect.  The re-branding is a part of the credit union’s strategy to best support those living or working in the city of Woburn as well as our newly expanded charter, which includes several surrounding communities. The new name maintains the organization’s long history as a trustworthy financial partner and will more accurately reflect our mission of being an inclusive and trustworthy financial partner for our members throughout their lifetime.

As a Community based credit union, Common Trust Federal Credit Union now serves persons who live, work, worship, regularly conduct business in, or attend school in, and businesses and other legal entities located in a contiguous portion of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, consisting of Bedford, Belmont, Burlington, Concord, Lexington, Lincoln, Medford, Melrose, North Reading, Reading, Stoneham, Tewksbury, Wakefield, Wilmington, Winchester, and Woburn, Massachusetts.

Fundraising Opportunity with Woburn Kiwanis

The Woburn Kiwanis are part of a global organization made up of volunteers with a shared commitment to changing the world, one child and one community at a time. They are organizing a puzzle fundraiser. Woburn Businesses have the opportunity to participate in this unique and memorable fundraiser.

Greetings,

My name is Lenny Delaney, Past President of the Kiwanis Club of Woburn.  Our club is putting together a new fundraiser which will be a once in a lifetime piece of art ready for framing. This artwork will be a map of Woburn and have images of Woburn businesses, restaurants, historic sites, interesting events and places in the City of Woburn in a Jigsaw puzzle form.

The artwork will be a 30” x 24” 1000 piece puzzle.  It will be full color custom artwork, hand drawn by White Mountain puzzle artist Gary Torrissi.  The individual artwork for the business advertisers will be placed in a “block” on the outside edge of the puzzle. In addition to the block ad, a second custom drawing of your business will be placed inside the interior map area of the puzzle, at the approximate location of your business.

We will initially be printing over 500 boxed puzzles; 300 hundred will be donated to schools in the city. This will be educational and a fun project for the children.  It means hundreds of families when assembling the puzzle will not only see your business but will learn some historic and fun facts of their home town.

The cost of advertising is $500.00, depending on the ability to pay only $300.00 for one top or side block and the larger corner squares are $500.00 each. Customers placing an ad will receive their own custom artwork (you decide what you want inserted) on the outside edge of the puzzle and another custom drawing inside the interior map area of the puzzle. You will also receive a boxed puzzle or if your business wishing to display the artwork may receive instead a full size 1 /2 cut puzzle with outlines of cut pieces, complete and ready for mounting and or framing.

We are hopeful that you will support this worthwhile and enjoyable fundraiser.

I would be happy to meet or talk with you any time in the next week or so for 15 or 20 minutes to present the details of our fundraiser and tell you about Kiwanis charities.

I can be reached at 617-851-0513.

 Sincerely,

Lenny Delaney

If possible, donations or a commitment to donate be received by April 30, 2019

Your member profile makes an important impression. When people search for a business on our website, what will they see? Here are some important tips to get the most value out of your Member Profile.

Include Current Photos

We all know a picture is worth a thousand words. Add a current head shot, images of your products or your location. Giving people something to look at will encourage them to actually read your profile and let’s them know that you want to make a good impression. In other words, that you value your customer’s experience.

Include Keywords

How do people find your business? What are the keywords they search for your service? Make sure to include a description that includes those keywords. That way when potential customers type “Bookkeeping” or “Landscaping” into our Find A Business search- you’ll be sure to pop up.

Add Additional Contacts

Adding additional contacts benefits your business because it gives potential customers another point of contact for your business. As we all know, employees can come and go and if your only point of contact is gone, how will people reach you? Adding additional contacts also adds them to the Woburn Chamber of Commerce email list. That means your employees (yes, your employees are Woburn Chamber of Commerce members too!) will hear about membership benefits, events and community news.

How to Update Your Profile

It’s super easy, just follow the link below to the Manage Your Account login. The login is most likely the email of the contact person listed for your business, but sometimes businesses use their info@ email. If you are stuck trying to get into your account, you can always contact the office wba@woburnbusinessassociation.com for help.

While you’re here take a look around. Do you want to add a Member Discount or promotion? Did you know that you can add up to 3 events per year to the Woburn Chamber of Commerce events calendar? Jump over to the Calendar Events page and click Add An Event. Once your event is approved it will go live on our calendar and can be linked to your registration, website, whatever.

What are you waiting for? Get your profile updated right now.

Amy Goober has been a Certified Health and Wellness Coach for Optavia for six years. She has supported over 500 clients and over 100 coaches during that time. Her role as an Optavia coach is to support clients following the weight loss and wellness plan as well as to mentor other coaches as they develop their businesses.

Amy Goober has ranked up to the level of Global Director

Amy is the first coach in Massachusetts to reach the level of Global Director. The level of Global Director is achieved by less than 1% of all of the 22,000 active coaches in Optavia nationwide.
After she and her husband lost a total of 50 pounds on this weight loss plan six years ago, Amy decided to become an Optavia coach to pay it forward and help others transform their lives. Amy states, “Losing weight was just the beginning of the gift this program has been for me. As someone who personally struggled with my weight throughout my life, I’m excited and energized to share my hard-learned lessons and the wisdom gained from this exceptional program. I am grateful for my team of health and wellness coaches who allow me to help more people achieve the success I see with my own personal clients.”

Economic revitalization through art
and cultural initiatives

Meet the Speaker:

Al Wilson, Founder and Executive Director of Beyond Walls, a creative agency whose mission is to activate public space to strengthen communities.
Inspired by projects in Brooklyn, New York; Philadelphia, PA; Kings Cross, London; and Wynwood, Miami.  Al recognized Lynn’s rich history, distinctive architecture, and burgeoning arts and cultural district as the perfect landscape in which to test the creative economy.
Al and a robust volunteer committee launched a grass-roots effort to implement four inaugural large scale public art installations in downtown Lynn.
In the summer of 2017, the initial Beyond Walls Mural Festival brought international artists to create murals on buildings in Lynn’s newly designated Downtown Cultural District. This enormously successful effort generated 4.5 million impressions on social media. A post festival study and survey found local business owners citing increased foot traffic in their establishments. Additionally, residents began returning to the downtown area, deeming it a safer environment to buy a coffee, go on a date, and generally work, shop, and play.
Al now leads a team of three who have backgrounds in city planning, arts administration, and fundraising. Building on the Beyond Walls model, Al and his team will continue to better the public realm and increase safety and economic vitality. Through the implementation of major art installations and programming that reflect the interests and cultural make up of communities served.

michelle ciccolo
Newly Elected Representative, Michelle Ciccolo has filed legislation designed to establish an innovative new funding mechanism to assist cities and towns in the creation of first mile/last mile transit options, providing sustainable ongoing funding that can be used in conjunction with RTAs and TMAs to deliver more transit services.  This bill is an essential step for connecting commuters to larger transit options, and it is critical to increasing ridership of commuter rail, traditional bus routes, and bus rapid transit (BRT), and to reducing the presence of single occupancy vehicles (SOVs). Senator Cindy Friedman is a cosponsor and has introduced identical language in the Senate as SD2135.
The deadline for submitting legislation was January 19, and I filed seven bills that will make critical changes to help keep both the district and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts moving forward.
  • Transit Improvement Districts (HD3816)
The Woburn Chamber of Commerce has been working to support and highlight viable transportation options for the city and it’s daily influx of Woburn Business employees. First mile/last mile transit options could make inroads in alleviating congestion and provide great value to business owners. For business owners, the public transportation option for their employees adds great incentive in hiring valuable talent and expands the employee pool tremendously.
We commend Representative Ciccolo and Senator Cindy Friedman for their forward thinking in regards to solutions for our transportation challenges.
If you would like to voice your support or discuss in more detail, Michelle Ciccolo’s Community Hours are:
Lexington
  • February 25, 2:00pm-3:00pm
  • Cary Memorial Library, Large Conference Room, 1874 Massachusetts Ave
Woburn
  • March 1, 10:00am-11:00am

Employee Education Starts January 22nd

Dear Employer,

When I outreach to employers in the Metro North Workforce Board region one of the number one issues brought up is retention of quality employees.  Employers inevitably tell me that turnover is an issue and they would love to find ways to keep their employees engaged and invested in their companies.  Would you be interested in learning more about how you can train, reward and retain your current staff? The Mass Hire Metro North Workforce Board in conjunction with Bunker Hill Community College is offering a 4-week, 50 hour Retail/Hospitality Management Training that provides a $550 stipend to successful graduates of the course.  This is an opportunity to grow the skill set of your current workforce, and identify employees looking to move forward in their jobs, by providing a free training that pays them for attending.

Students attending this program will learn basic Accounting and Math for Retail, Professional Communication and Computer Applications.   Each class is co-taught by professors at Bunker Hill Community College and an Adult Basic Education Professor. This co-taught teaching method allows students who have English as a Second Language to learn and grow in their careers along with main stream students.  If you have an employee that needs additional English they are also eligible to attend a four-week, 48-hour training in January and then enroll in the February class. This ESL class also provides a stipend of $480 for students who complete and enroll in the February Retail Management Class.

Employee education class runs Monday through Thursday from 3:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Students receive a schedule prior to the class so that their supervisors can adjust their work schedule accordingly.

The Management Academy Training flyer (below) will provide more information about the training and ESL classes.  If you would like to refer an employee to the training or would like more information, you can contact me directly at 617-583-9140 or email me at cchapin@masshiremetronorth.org.   Thank you for your time and consideration.  I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,
